OUR STORY

Located near the beach and backwaters of Cherai on the coast a short drive from the port city of Cochin, Vala House is your ideal spot to experience life on the island. Cherai has always had its own distinct culture and lifestyle. When settlers first moved on to the island from the mainland life was simple, people just lived off the land and the sea. The first families who settled were fishermen who depended on the sea for their livelihood and from the coconut trees that grew in abundance. With the advent of time life has changed, now there are bridges that connect it to the mainland. The locals still live mainly off what the sea offers and one of the biggest fishing harbours is nearby. The beaches of Cherai and nearby coast have been `discovered` by tourists. However there are still some spots where you can experience the Cherai of the old days. Vala House is one such place. Being in the village away from the touristy part of the beach Vala House offers an authentic Cherai experience. You overlook a large expanse of water, rows of Chinese fishing nets and palm fringed waterways.

Vala House has just 4 rooms that enhances a homely atmosphere. Built in the style of a traditional manor house in Kerala with a tiled roof and arches. Each well appointed room has a private sit-out that opens to a private garden overlooking the backwaters. The upper floor offers an uninterrupted view of the water and houses has a lounge, dining area and library. The beach is a short walk away, a boat trip on the waterway is also truly memorable experience.
