Located near the beach and backwaters of Cherai on the coast a short drive from the port city of Cochin, Vala House is your ideal spot to experience life on the island. Cherai has always had its own distinct culture and lifestyle. When settlers first moved on to the island from the mainland life was simple, people just lived off the land and the sea. The first families who settled were fishermen who depended on the sea for their livelihood and from the coconut trees that grew in abundance. Vala House is a hidden gem! The setting is perfect overlooking the beautiful fishing nets on the back waters. The view from my room (The Pink and Blue Room) was gorgeous with coconut trees swaying in the breeze. Breakfast was a treat with a choice of either continental or indian, I went continental with delicious jams, toast, fruit and incase that wasn`t enough, my favourite - masala omelette. All freshly cooked and eaten with yet another beautiful view.My trip was short but sweet and I would definitely go back again and again!

We stayed here for two nights and had a lovely stay. We booked the first night quite spontaneous and arrived at almost midnight. But still Sinna, the host, was really nice and helpful and made us some omlette and vegetables (we haven`t eaten all day). All meals we had were freshly cooked by local women and were absolutely delicious. We had really good conversations with Sinna. Vala house is freshly renovated, everything looks stunning. In the morning you can see the fisherman working with the chinese nets. All together we can definitely recommend this place if you want to relax and have a great time.

Excellent place to Chill out with backwaters as the backdrop and the sea in the front, which is walkable distance.. Enjoyed our stay. Pretty decent rooms. Quite spacious, with a sit out, too. Courteous staff and good service. Served food was yummy, great. Try the fresh fishes.

We had a wonderful stay at Vala House last weekend. We checked in late on Saturday evening and the room was well laid out and ready for us. The view from the room was breathtaking with just the moonlight. The serene backwaters and perfect reflection of the coconut trees on the water. All we heard was the occasional gentle splashes of the fish. It was absolutely cool and refreshing to sleep in the beautifully laid out airy space.
